Roane Medical is seeking an Outpatient and ER Registration Specialist. approximately 16-24 hours per week, mostly evenings, 3p-11p, $10.40/hr during day, $11/hr evening and overnight hours. 

Must type at least 45 wpm. Must possess excellent customer service skills. Must be proficient in the use of proper grammar. Familiar with computer hardware / software is preferred. Must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly, and perform basic mathematic calculations.  Collect payments and/or deposits, balances cash collected and correctly completes receipts.   Knowledge of general office practices such as filing and telephone etiquette is necessary. Must be able to perform repetitive clerical tasks on a continuous basis. Absences must be infrequent. Must be able to remain mentally alert and maintain concentration with attention to detail for long periods, at times under stress. Must demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, initiative, persistence, and efficiency of time management and action. Must be able to work effectively in a high stress work environment, and must be a able to work as a team member. General knowledge of medical terminology or demonstrated work experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Knowledge of insurance verification, authorization, and eligibility requirements for health insurance carriers preferred. Demonstration of excellent customer service skills with an overall positive, resourceful attitude.

Job Duties:

Greet patients in a cordial and professional manner during the patient's visit. Will ensure accuracy of patient information and insurance coverage.  Understands payment methods, communicates co-pays, deductibles with patients.  Register patients efficiently and accurately within a timely manner, obtaining appropriate signatures, completing all required forms and providing patient information as required by state and federal regulations.  Verify insurance information according to department procedures and ensure that required pre-authorizations/pre-certifications have been obtained, if applicable. Coordinate registration and diagnosis information with physician offices and service areas to minimize the inconvenience to the patients.  Requests and collects cash from patients according to policy and procedures.  Maintains 98% accuracy on Medicare Secondary payor audits, and less than 5 Registration errors monthly. Maintain patient confidentiality and protects sensitive data at all times.  Adheres to Roane Medical Center and the Registration Department specific safety standards and guidelines.  Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, staff and the broader health care community. Demonstrate a commitment to service, organization values, and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times.

Minimum Education: None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.

Minimum Experience: Experience in hospital setting or financial area required. Strong knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Must be familiar with insurance plans and requirements.

Position Accountabilities and Performance Criteria:

1. Under general supervision, provides support to end-users for PC, server, network, applications and hardware.

2. Under general supervision, assists in the evaluation of business problems, evaluates and recommends vendor packages, and implements required software.

3. Interacts with various levels of IT staff and others outside of IT to restore service and/or identify and correct problems.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education AS in computer-related field or equivalent work experience.

Minimum Experience Minimum of three (3) years related experience. Experience working with LAN's/WAN's and working knowledge of required hardware and software.

Licensure Requirement Employee must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license and state mandated

minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health

minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
